Pretty much as soon as we arrived in the UK in 2011 we’ve had the idea of driving a Land Rover back to South Africa. We even went to see a few way back then. However, it was 2013 when we were in Yorkshire that we revisited the project… By then I had a mate at work, Steve Gower, who is a committed Land Rover enthusiast. Always on the look out for prospective Land Rover mates Steve believes that if he can’t find a Land Rover mate that he’ll create one… As soon as I announced that I’d like to get hold of a Discovery than he had found one on autotrader down in Bromwich.
I was busy with a cycling event on the weekend so Caroline set off on a 6 hour round trip journey so check this one out. She did a great job of the overview and over the next couple of weeks we acquired a 1999 Discovery 1 in pretty much pristine condition for the princely sum of £4000. Although this was a lot of money for a Disco we figured that if we get one which does not need work then we can hopefully save on garage bills in future as so far, I’m not much of a Land Rover mechanic.
